LA VERNE, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Basketball team bounced back with a big 75-55 win over Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent La Verne on Wednesday night.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens have now won four of their last five conference games to improve to 6-10 overall and 4-3 in the SCIAC this season.
Pomona-Pitzer had a very good night from the field as they converted on 45.2% of their shots from the field and 42.9% from beyond the arc.
The Sagehens wasted no time getting going in the first half as they began the game on a 16-0 run capped off by a pair of made free-throws by Koch. The Sagehen defense held La Verne scoreless for the first six minutes of the game but the Leopards quickly made up for it as they responded with a 19-4 run to cut the lead down to just one point at 20-19 with just over nine minutes left in the first half.
Pomona-Pitzer regrouped on defense and held La Verne scoreless for the final five minutes of the half as they built a strong 39-25 lead heading into halftime thanks to big first half performances by Rosenbaum and Elan who went into the locker room with 15 points and 10 points, respectively.
The Sagehens came out in the second half and never looked back as they quickly took control of the game. The Leopards and Sagehens exchanged baskets early in the half but Pomona-Pitzer outscored La Verne 18-7 in the first ten minutes of the second half to extend their lead to 57-32.
The Sagehens were able to take their foot off of the gas late as they built a sizeable lead late in the game. Pomona-Pitzer was clicking on all cylinders tonight as they went on the road into La Verne and cruised to a strong 75-55 victory.
