MCMINNVILLE, OR. – The Pomona-Pitzer Baseball team came away with a doubleheader win over Linfield with a 21-1 win and a 12-3 win on Saturday afternoon.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve to 20-18 overall.
Pomona-Pitzer 21, Linfield 1
The Sagehens were led by first-year Jack Damelio who went 3-6 in the win with four runs scored and two RBIs.
Pomona-Pitzer plated a season-high 21 runs in the win over Linfield and got started in a big way with six of them in the first inning. Sophomore Jake Patterson-Kohout and junior Hunter Hennigh singled home runs and junior Jack Hanley hit a three-run homer to take a 6-0 lead.
Pomona-Pitzer posted their second six run inning of the game in the top of the sixth. Jess hit his team-high 10th homer of the year followed by RBIs from Freeman, senior Andrew Phillips and sophomore Seth Stone to push the lead to 17-1.
The Sagehens didn't stop there as they plated three more in the ninth as first-year Lincoln Plant brought home a run on a sacrifice fly, first-year Kevin Lo doubled home Jess and junior Jeremiah Quezada doubled home another runner as the Sagehens ended with a 21-1 victory.
Pomona-Pitzer 12, Linfield 3
The Sagehens were led by Jess who went 5-6 in the win with four runs scored and five RBIs. Jess and junior Nolan McCafferty combined for 10 RBIs for the Sagehens as both plated five runs in the win.
The Sagehens jumped ahead once again over the Wildcats as Jess and McCafferty each tallied an RBI in the first to take a 2-0 lead.
The Sagehens added one more in the third as Patterson-Kohout singled home Jess and Jess and McCafferty struck again in the fourth as Jess doubled home Stone and McCafferty blasted a three-run homer to take a 7-0 lead.
After Stone drove in a run with an RBI single, Jess came back with a homer of his own in the sixth to make it 11 homers on the year and extend the lead to 9-0. McCafferty followed with a sacrifice fly to end the scoring for the Sagehens as they held a 12-0 lead.
Linfield struck for three runs in the bottom of the ninth but the Sagehens were able to hang on for the doubleheader win.
