CLAREMONT, CA. –The Pomona-Pitzer Baseball team added two assistant coaches to its coaching staff with the additions of Joel Belk and Max Vogel-Freedman as announced by Head Coach Frank Pericolosi.
Belk enters his first season as a member of the Pomona-Pitzer Baseball coaching staff where he will serve as the pitching coach and be heavily involved in recruiting efforts.
Belk has worked as a Pitching and Performance Coach at Performance Fitness for Athletes (PFA) in Upland and will continue working there while at Pomona-Pitzer. Last spring he served as the pitching coach at Ontario Christian High School and the previous spring he was the Head JV Coach at Ontario Christian.
Coach Belk also played professionally in Sweden for one summer with the Leksand Lumberjacks and played in the Alaska League while at Azusa Pacific University.
Belk graduated from APU in 2015 with a degree in Applied Exercise Science and then received his Masters in Leadership and Development in 2016.
Vogel-Freedman also enters his first season as an assistant coach with the Pomona-Pitzer Baseball program. He will serve as an all-purpose assistant and the Director of Baseball Operations.
Vogel-Freedman joins the Sagehens after completing a four-year career at Bowdoin College. At Bowdoin, Vogel-Freedman was a left-handed pitcher who was voted team captain his senior year. As captain, he led the team in starts, strikeouts, innings pitched and ERA en route to the program's most wins in the NESCAC East since 2013.
At Bowdoin, Vogel-Freedman majored in Government & Legal Studies with a concentration in Political Theory and completed an internship at the New York City Mayor's Office, for which he was awarded the Strong/Gault Social Advancement Grant.
