LOS ANGELES, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Baseball team defeated Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent Occidental 5-2 on Friday afternoon at Anderson Field.

Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens improve to 22-12 overall and 12-7 in SCIAC play.

The Sagehens were led by Adam Hinthorne who had the only two-hit performance of the day going 2-4 with an RBI. Brian Knapp and Cade Hulse each had a home run in the game with a solo shot from Knapp and a two-run homer for Hulse.

Tyler Yoshihara twirled another gem to earn his sixth win of the year as he went eight innings and only gave up two runs on six hits and fanned nine batters in his outing. Brett Super came on for the save in the ninth to pick up his second save this season.

With a spot in the SCIAC Postseason on the line the Sagehens came out and took game one of a very important three-game series against the Tigers.

Occidental jumped out in front to start the game as they homered in the bottom of the first to take a 1-0 lead. The Sagehens erased their deficit in the top of the third with one swing of the bat as Knapp blasted a solo shot to tie the game at 1-1. The Sagehens went on to take the lead later in the inning as Jeremiah Quezada singled home Nolan McCafferty to take a 2-1 lead.

The Tigers responded with a run in the bottom half of the third after an RBI single to tie the game once again at 2-2, but Pomona-Pitzer would come back and reclaim the lead in the fourth after Hinthorne singled to right field to bring in Bryce Rogan to take a 3-2 lead.

Yoshihara settled in on the mound and put together five-straight scoreless frames to keep the Sagehens on top. Hulse helped out the cause in the top of the sixth as his two-run shot gave the Sagehens their largest lead of the day at 5-2.

Super came on to relieve Yoshihara in the ninth and went one, two, three as the Sagehens took game one on the road over Occidental.
