CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Baseball team defeated non-conference opponent Willamette 17-0 on Sunday afternoon at Alumni Field.
Season Impact: With the win, the Sagehens finish their opening weekend with a 3-1 overall record.
On the mound for Pomona-Pitzer was junior Nicholas Radich who went seven complete innings surrendered six hits and two strikeouts for his first win of the season.
The Sagehens were led by senior Tanner Nishioka who went 3-4 with a run scored and four RBI off of a grand slam for his first homerun of the year. Freshman Nolan McCafferty also went 3-4 with two runs scored and junior Cade Hulse went 4-5 with three runs scored.
The Bearcats were led by Troy Conway who went 2-3 with a walk in the loss.
The Sagehens had their offense working for them in today's game as they totaled 22 hits on the afternoon.
The Sagehens struck again with two more in the bottom of the fourth after they scored on a throwing error and an RBI from junior Adam Hinthorne to give them a 3-0 lead.
McCafferty added onemore run in the bottom of the fifth after his RBI single to center plated Hulse to extend the lead to 4-0.
The Sagehens added three more in the bottom of the eighth with RBI's from sophomore Peter Troupe and freshmen Cole Cross and Tyler Yoshihara as Pomona-Pitzer cruised to a huge victory to close out their opening weekend.
