Baseball: Sagehens Sweep Season Series Against Caltech With 13-3 and 20-4 Wins

PASADENA, Calif. – The Pomona-Pitzer baseball team swept their season series against Caltech with a 13-3 and 20-4 win on Saturday afternoon at North Field.

Senior Simon Rosenbaum improved to 2-1 on the year as he went seven innings and gave up only three runs on six hits.

The Sagehens started the day the day off with the lead as sophomore Bryce Rogan  double down the right field line to bring home senior Kevin Brice to take a 1-0 lead in the first.

Caltech responded with three runs in the bottom of the third with an RBI double and an RBI single to take a 3-1 lead.

Pomona-Pitzer broke the game open in the top of the fourth as they plated eight runners with RBI's from sophomore Rob Simsiman, sophomore Matt Omori, freshman Andrew Phillips and Rogan to take a commanding 9-3 lead.

The Sagehens added four more runs in the top of the seventh as Pomona-Pitzer took game one of the road double header.

Pomona-Pitzer started out game two with nine runs in the first inning as Rogan, freshman Cade Hulse and Omori reached on RBI singles and Phillips and sophomore Adam Hinthorne singled home two more as the Sagehens took a 9-0 lead.

The Sagehens got one more in the second as Simsiman doubled home Hulse and tacked on three more in fifth after Rosenbaum hit a home run to take a 13-0 lead over the Beavers.

Pomona-Pitzer put three more runs on the board in the top of the sixth after junior Tanner Nishioka tripled and Rogan scored Nishioka on a sacrifice fly to take a 16-0 lead.

Caltech got on the board with three runs in the bottom of the sixth but Pomona-Pitzer scored four more runs in the seventh as they run ruled the Beavers in seven innings.

The Sagehens will next play in the SCIAC Round Robin on Wednesday, April 27th.
