Baseball: Pomona-Pitzer Drops Opening Game To Cal Lutheran 9-1

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Pomona-Pitzer baseball team fell to Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponent Cal Lutheran 9-1 in game one of their three-game series on Friday afternoon at Alumni Field.

The Kingsmen did most of their damage with the long ball as they started out to an early lead as Ramsey Abushahla hit a two-run homer to center field to give Cal Lutheran a 2-0 advantage.

Cal Lutheran hit another two-run home run in the top of the seventh, this time off of the bat of Davey Casciola to extend the Kingsmen lead to 4-0.

The Sagehens got on the board in the bottom of the seventh as sophomore Matt Omori brought home sophomore Cade Hulse on a fielder's choice to cut the lead down to 4-1.

Cal Lutheran broke the game open in the top of the ninth as they scored five more runs on two RBI singles and an RBI double to take control of the game with a 9-1 lead.

Pomona-Pitzer could not come back from the large deficit in the ninth as the Sagehens dropped their fourth-straight SCIAC game.

The Sagehens will finish their SCIAC series against Cal Lutheran on Sunday, April 10th with a double header beginning at 11:00 a.m.
