CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Pomona-Pitzer baseball team fell to Pacific 16-11 in the final game of the three-game series on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field.
The Sagehens jumped out to a big lead as they scored six runs to open up the game. Pomona-Pitzer had six RBI's in the inning coming from sophomore Bryce Rogan, senior Kevin Brice, sophomore Cade Hulse, sophomore Matt Omori, sophomore Joey Hebl and sophomore Adam Hinthorne to take an early 6-0 lead.
Pacific began to chip away at the Sagehens' lead as they scored one run in the second, third and fifth inning and cut the lead down to 6-3 after five innings of play.
The Boxers came back and took the lead in the sixth as they scored eight runs in the inning highlighted by a Dylan Wright grand slam as Pacific took an 11-6 lead.
The Sagehens came back to score three runs in the bottom half of the sixth as Rogan hit a two-run homer and Hulse brought home Brice on a sacrifice fly to cut the lead down to 11-9.
Pacific then tacked on five more in the top of the seventh and took control of the game with a 16-9 lead.
The Sagehens added two more in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI single by Brice but the Boxers held on to sweep the three-game series against Pomona-Pitzer.
The Sagehens next take the field as they host non-conference opponent Pacific Lutheran on Wednesday, March 30th at 3:00 p.m.
