Baseball: Pomona-Pitzer Drops Both Games At Redlands

REDLANDS, Calif. – The Pomona-Pitzer baseball team dropped both games to Redlands 5-4 and 11-3 on Saturday afternoon at The Yard in Redlands, California.

The Sagehens struck first in the top of the second as freshman Jeremy Burton drove home sophomore Kevin Jordan with an RBI single and sophomore Adam Hinthorne squeezed home sophomore Cade Hulse as Pomona-Pitzer took a 2-0 lead.

Redlands came back to tie the game in the bottom of the fifth as Christian Gurrola tripled to right center and was driven in by Mark Tumlinson with an RBI single up the middle. Kevin Stevens then doubled home Tumlinson to even the score at 2-2 after five innings of play.

Redlands went on to take the lead in the bottom of the sixth after an RBI single by Aaron Singh and a sacrifice fly by Gurrola gave the Bulldogs a 4-2 lead going into the seventh.

Pomona-Pitzer scored one run in the seventh as Hulse drove in sophomore Bryce Rogan to cut the Bulldogs' lead down to just one run at 4-3. The Sagehens then went on to tie the game in the eighth with an RBI single up the middle by junior Tanner Nishioka that scored senior Kevin Brice as the game came to a tie at 4-4 going into the bottom of the eighth.

Redlands had a chance to end the game in the bottom of the ninth as they had bases loaded with only one out. The Bulldogs flied out two times in a row and was unable to register a winning run as the game went into extra innings.

The Bulldogs were able to find their offense in the bottom of the 10th as Christopher Scalisi was able to drive in the winning run as Redlands took game one of the double header.

Pomona-Pitzer was able to strike first again in game two as Rogan singled home Brice to give the Sagehens a 1-0 lead after the first.

The Bulldogs answered with one in the first and one in the second to take a 2-1 lead over Pomona-Pitzer after two innings of play.

The Sagehens added one more in the third as Burton walked with the bases loaded to bring home Rogan to bring the game to a 2-2 tie.

Redlands answered the Sagehen run with one of its own as Mitch Samson hit an RBI double to give Redlands a 3-2 win.

The Bulldogs pulled away as they went on to score eight runs in the next two innings as they took a commanding 11-2 lead over Pomona-Pitzer.

The Sagehens scored one more on a wild pitch but the Bulldogs hung on to take the season series from Pomona-Pitzer.

The Sagehens next take the field as they travel to Whittier on Friday, March 4th at 2:30 p.m.
