Sagehens Use Big Innings To Sweep Caltech

Pasadena, Calif. - The Pomona-Pitzer Baseball team took a 12-1 win over Caltech in the first game and then came alive in the late innings for a 16-4 win in the nightcap on Saturday.

With the wins, Pomona-Pitzer improves to 12-17 overall and 8-13 in the SCIAC, while Caltech slips to 1-23 overall and 0-19 in league play.

Simon Rosenbaum (pictured) was 4-for-5 with four doubles and three RBI in the opener, and then went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI in the nightcap.

Caltech had a 3-0 lead through five innings of the second game, before the Sagehens scored five runs in the sixth and then added 11. Tanner Nishioka led off the fifth with a triple and came home on an RBI single from Sam Fox. After a stolen base, Rosenbaum had an RBI single to make it 3-2, and Jake Bruml followed with a two-run triple to give Pomona-Pitzer the lead for good and Kenny Rabin added an RBI single.

The Beavers closed to within 5-4 in the bottom of the sixth, but the Sagehens were able to break it open with 11 runs in the eighth. Rabin started things off with a double and added a bases-loaded walk, while Brice had an RBI double, E.J. Lopez an RBI single, Kevin Jordan an RBI single, and Fox a two-run single to cap it off.

Rabin was 3-for-4 with two RBI in the nightcap, while Fox, Bruml, Jordan and Brice each had two hits. Brice was 3-for-4 in the opening game, while Nishioka, Lopez and Bruml had two hits apiece.  Lane Miles allowed just one run on eight hits to get a complete game win.

The Sagehens will be back in action next weekend to face defending national champion Linfield in a three-game series on Saturday and Sunday.
