Claremont, Calif. - Danny Clifford hit a third-inning grand slam to lead the George Fox Baseball team to a 12-1 win over Pomona-Pitzer, its eighth win in a row.
With the win, the Bruins move their record to 10-1 overall on the year, while Pomona-Pitzer sees its record slip to 3-7.
The score was tied 0-0 in the third, when Derek Dixon hit a bases-loaded RBI single in the 5-6 hole to score the game's first run. Clifford then followed with a long fly ball to center that carried over the wall to make it 5-0.
Pomona-Pitzer got its offense from sophomore designated hitter Simon Rosenbaum (pictured) who had a pair of doubles, including a deep one down the left field line to account for the lone Sagehen run. Freshman catcher Kevin Jordan added a single, while senior left fielder Coleman Lukas was 1-for-3 with a double and a fly out to the wall in center field.
Clifford finished the game 3-for-4 with his four RBI for the Bruins, while Ian Buckles threw seven strong innings, allowing six hits and one run to get the win for George Fox.
Pomona-Pitzer returns to action this weekend for a three-game series with Redlands, hosting the Bulldogs at 2:30 p.m. on Friday and traveling to Redlands for a doubleheader on Saturday.
